Celebrating Scotland at the New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival

At the Quaich Company, we love a bit of hammer throwing and caber tossing. What’s more our handcrafted pewter quaichs find their way to many places across the world to help customers and organisations celebrate their passion for Scotland. We’re honoured that this includes high profile sports events such as the New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival (NHHG&F) in the USA.

The NHHG&F is one of the largest and most diverse Highland Games in North America. And if you were to look closely at their trophy table you’d find it covered with an array of pewter quaichs, all handcrafted right here in our factory in Sheffield, a city with a worldwide reputation in metalwork.

From hammer throwing to Highland dance, the Games welcomes world-class sports people from United States, Canada, Iceland, Scotland and across Europe. We’re delighted that their talents are celebrated with our finest pewter quaichs.

From Highland Games to Game of Thrones

This year the Games welcomed Thor Bjornson, world record holder for lobbing a rather large, 56lb weight (that’s heavier than our Richard’s annual intake of coffee and biscuits!) over a rather high bar. Thor is also known as Gregor “The Mountain That Rides” Clegane in Game of Thrones. At 6 feet 9 inches and more than 28 stone, we expect he could crush one of our quaichs with his little finger, although we trust it actually has pride of place in his display cabinet back home in Iceland.

Peter Gudmunson, Olympian and World Record Holder for the shot put and Magnus ver Magnusson, four-times holder of Worlds Strongest Man are also regulars in the competition.
